Jacqueline and Pete’s Wedding:
Part 1 – The Church
From my first meeting with Jacqueline and Pete, it was clear their love for God was as deep and radiant as their love for one another. A Christian couple grounded in faith, they made it clear that they wanted their wedding day to reflect the central role of their spiritual connection.
The ceremony took place at St. John of Jerusalem Church in Hackney, where Jacqueline has been a dedicated member for many years. The church, with its stunning architecture and rich history, became the perfect setting for their union. Its ornate decor and beautiful stained glass windows created a sacred and timeless atmosphere, and the traditional church bells, still in use after all these years, would later ring out to announce their marriage.
Music was central to their worship and celebration, so they enlisted the talents of wedding singer Mary Jolé to set the tone for their big day. Mary’s powerful and soulful voice filled the church as she serenaded Jacqueline down the aisle with “A Thousand Years,” a fitting tribute to the couple’s enduring love. She also led the hymns with grace and joy, elevating the congregation’s voices in praise. At the end of the ceremony, she sang the couple out with Natalie Cole’s classic “This Will Be,” adding a touch of soul to their grand exit.

The weather couldn’t have been more perfect—a gloriously sunny July day. Jacqueline’s morning was peaceful, spent in the comfort of her home with her mother and niece by her side. She had her hair done by Miss Manes and her make up by Red Artistry. She had envisioned a serene start to the day, so her 11 bridesmaids got ready at the nearby Prince Regent Chigwell Hotel, before meeting at the church for the first time that morning.

Pete, ever the laid-back yet upbeat groom, arrived at the church with his best man. Although he appeared his usual calm self, there was a glimmer of excitement in his eyes. After pinning on his buttonhole expertly crafted by Elisana florist and fastening a beautiful watch gifted to him by Jacqueline, Pete greeted the guests with a warm smile as they began to arrive. Soon, the church was filled with the buzz of 150 family members and friends, eagerly awaiting the momentous occasion.

Jacqueline arrived in style in a pristine Rolls Royce Ghost from Premier Carriage Wedding Cars, complete with a red leather interior, handpicked by Pete. The sight of the elegant car rolling up to the church added a touch of glamour to the day. Inside, the bridal party gathered—12 bridesmaids in pale pink dresses and 8 groomsmen in royal blue suits—ready for their grand entrance down the church’s long aisle.

As the bridesmaids and groomsmen made their way into the church, all eyes turned to Jacqueline. She was dressed in a stunning gown from Helena Fortly bridal boutique. The congregation rose to their feet as she entered, arm in arm with her pastor, a dear friend who would also be giving her away. Jacqueline’s graceful walk down the aisle was a sight to behold, and in a heartwarming moment, she paused briefly to wave at her mother, who was beaming with pride.

When Jacqueline reached the altar, her eyes met Pete’s, and they exchanged a smile so full of love that it radiated throughout the church. Together, they stood before the altar, ready to commit their lives to one another.
The ceremony, officiated by Reverend Andrew Wilson, was filled with laughter, emotion, and heartfelt moments. The hymns, readings, and music during the signing of the register added layers of meaning to the service. The church was alive with both reverence and joy.

When it was time to depart as husband and wife, the newlyweds made their way back down the aisle, hand in hand, to thunderous applause, accompanied by Mary Jolé’s rendition of “This Will Be.” As they exited, the bells of St. John of Jerusalem rang out triumphantly, marking the beginning of their new life together.
Outside, their guests gathered in two lines, ready to shower the couple in confetti. Gold and white filled the air as Jacqueline and Pete walked down the path, the church bells still chiming. It was a picture-perfect moment of pure joy and celebration as they headed off to their reception.
